Mrs. Jessie Stone was a life-long Moravian who treasured her church, its pastor, and the many valuable ministries of the Moravian Church in America. She and her husband, Joe, didn’t have any children, so she wanted to do something special to support the causes which were important to her; however, she also wanted to share her blessings with her family and was worried about the burden of estate and inheritance taxes. Jessie loved her home in Pilot Mountain and wanted to remain there even if serious health or physical limitations set in; she also realized something needed to be done with it and her hope might not be realistic. Together we created a charitable remainder unitrust to gift her home. Upon the sale of the property by the trust, Mrs. Stone received annual income based on the value of the assets from the sale. Through the trust she also created the Joe and Jessie Stone Fund. This fund benefits King Moravian Church, the Moravian Music Foundation, Salemtowne, the Board of World Mission, Moravian Seminary, and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church (Jessie’s parents’ church). Jessie recognized and appreciated the importance of the Moravian Church’s many agencies and ministries and her generosity will support them forever.
