At the Moravian Ministries Foundation in America (MMFA), we believe in the power of generosity to create real, lasting change. But how can we ensure that we fulfill our mission to help individuals, churches, and agencies grow and sustain the ministries central to our Moravian faith?
That’s where Field of Interest (FOI) funds come in!
These special funds allow donors to support causes they care about—like hunger relief, housing, or environmental stewardship—without having to pick specific organizations. Instead, MMFA stewards these gifts, awarding grants to churches and organizations doing incredible work in each focus area.
The Birth of a Big Idea
Back in March 2019, we launched our first FOI fund: Hunger & Thirst. A year later, the first grants were awarded, helping to put food on tables and water in cups. It didn’t take long for this idea to grow! Now, MMFA has eight FOI funds, each tackling a different challenge:
- Hunger & Thirst (2019) – No one should have to go to bed hungry.
- Housing & Shelter (2019) – Providing safe places to call home.
- Clothing (2019) – Meeting basic needs with dignity.
- Healing & Health (2019) – Supporting physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
- Prison Ministry (2019) – Bringing hope and resources to those who are incarcerated.
- Violence Against Women (2020) – For those looking to prevent violence against women.
- Environmental Stewardship (2020) – Caring for God’s creation.
- Racial Awareness, Equity, and Repair (2021) – Working toward justice.
Where Does the Money Go?
Each year, MMFA awards grants to churches and organizations that align with these focus areas. The beauty of FOI funds is that they combine resources from multiple donors, creating a greater impact than any individual donation could.
Organizations that receive grants are working on the front lines—feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, providing medical care, and advocating for justice. These are real projects, with real impact.
Making a Difference, One Grant at a Time
Since 2020, FOI grants have helped fund:
- Food pantries serving thousands of meals to families in need.
- Shelters offering warmth and stability to those experiencing homelessness.
- Medical clinics providing life-saving treatments and services.
- Programs for incarcerated individuals that foster hope, healing, and rehabilitation.
- Environmental initiatives that protect and restore God’s creation.
- Workshops on racial equity and justice, fostering deep and lasting change.
- AND MUCH MORE!!
Every grant tells a story. Every dollar given to an FOI fund moves ministries forward, together.
Be Part of the Impact
If you’re passionate about one of these areas, you can contribute to an FOI fund today and make a tangible difference. Or, if you’re part of a nonprofit working in one of these areas, consider applying for a grant (more information about our 2025 grant cycle will be released in spring)!
