Stewardship Spotlight: Recurring Stewardship

Isaiah 43:19 begins with “See, I am doing a new thing!” It is safe to say we are all doing new things this year, whether it’s having groceries delivered, worshiping online, or teaching our children from home.

How has your stewardship changed during this pandemic? What new things are you doing to give of your time, talent, treasure, and testimony?

A few common statements I hear when I work with congregations on holistic stewardship are:

  • “Stewardship is what I give to my church.”
  • “We only talk about stewardship once a year.”
  • “Stewardship is the church wanting money from me.”

A lot of people think stewardship is solely about the church. While the church is part of it, we are stewards all the time and our stewardship is what we do with everything we have, everything God has entrusted to us. Thus even though we may not be going to our church buildings quite yet, we are still stewards and still called to give generously.

So back to the question of how your stewardship has changed during this pandemic. Perhaps you’re now giving of your time to call people and see how they’re doing. Maybe you’re using your sewing talents to make masks for your community. Or you could be donating money to a local Covid-19 relief fund. See, you are doing a new thing!

Our stewardship is recurring, not just something we do once a year. We can’t allow today’s circumstances to keep us from giving; instead, we can discern how God is calling us to give in new ways, again and again.

If you’d like to talk about how your Moravian Ministries Foundation can help you look at your individual stewardship or what stewardship means in your ministry context, we’re here to help.

We’re also delighted to offer the Giving Portal as a way for you to easily make recurring financial gifts to the ministries that mean the most to you! Setting up a recurring payment is a wonderful way to say, “Yes, Lord, I will do this,” and to deepen your relationship with God as you put faith in His promise to provide for you.

See, we are doing new things! May God bless them and you, today and every day.
